Honeymoon Cautions

1) Mother Nature
No matter how much we hope and pray, weather doesn’t always cooperate with our agendas. Rainstorms, heatwaves -you name it- Mother Nature can create unexpected stumbling blocks when living your dream vacation. While you can’t control the weather, the one thing you can do is be prepared. Plan your activities ahead of time around the weather. Don’t be afraid to opt in for a fun couples day inside! I hear couples massages are getting increasingly popular these days 🙂

2) Lost Luggage
There’s nothing worse than getting to your destination after hours of travel and finding out your belongings are nowhere to be found. It’s truly an awful situation as there’s very little you can do, or wear. While lost luggage is a mere case of bad luck, we can prepare ourselves in the off chance that it does happen. Packing a spare clothing outfit and essential toiletries in a carry-on is a great way to prevent anything from leaving your side. Investing in travel insurance is another measure some may prefer to ensure protection of your bags. All of this aside, airlines usually are very helpful and will do all they can to track down your bags.

3) Physical Health
Sometimes when we’re put in new, especially foreign, environments, it’s easy for us to feel under the weather. Our bodies aren’t used to the food, water, and weather of that place, and it can take some time for us to adjust. Make sure that if you’re going somewhere exotic, you consult a doctor about any health concerns for that area, and potentially receive necessary vaccines/medications. Avoid eating food/drinking water where the health standards may be questionable. Get plenty of sleep, stay hydrated, and contact local medical agencies when needed.

Your Honeymoon Horror Stories

One user wrote in saying “I went into anaphylactic shock on my honeymoon and spent the whole day in the hospital”. There’s nothing like a hospital scare to shake up your honeymoon… This is so awful and scary, I hope everything was okay in the end! In situations like this, and across the board with honeymoons, the most important thing to do is to stay calm. It can be stressful dealing with medical personnel in an area that’s not home, but do your best to relax. Think logically and act quickly. Travel insurance may give you some benefits if medical emergencies were to happen, so just do your research.

Another user wrote in saying “We missed the bus to get to our Italian Villa and had to walk 3 miles with heavy backpacks.” Talk about the ultimate fitness test… I can’t even imagine hiking three miles with all your luggage. With how jam packed travel itineraries can be, this scenario is probably somewhat common among honeymooners. Things happen out of our control sometimes and we just have to adapt and make the most of it. Perhaps honeymooners can avoid this by having a good understanding of all their specific means of travel, and the timeline between each activity. That’s really the most you can do at that point, and just hope it all runs smoothly.

Embrace the Imperfections

As much as you may want your honeymoon to be perfect, obstacles are inevitable, and that’s just part of life. The best thing you can do is embrace the imperfections! Don’t let a small misfortune set the tone for your entire trip- use it as an opportunity for growth, laughter, and love. Honeymoons aren’t meant to be a stressful burden, so try your best to not let anything overwhelming get to you. This is such a precious, joyful time in your life, and we want you to have a wonderful time. Relax, have some fun, and go make some lifelong memories with the love of your life!
