Wedding cake.  It’s the centerpiece of any wedding reception, and there are a variety of ways to incorporate it.  We’ve got four potential wedding cake ideas for you, and three of them are non-traditional!  If you’re feeling conflicted about what type of wedding cake you want, hopefully this post will provide some help.

Traditional

Traditional wedding cakes are beautiful, multi-tiered creations.  They’re classic and a great go-to for any wedding.  There are a couple of ways you can spice up a traditional wedding cake.  Instead of fondant, use buttercream.  It can give you the desired smooth finish, but has better taste and texture than most fondants.  For further variety, add a filling between the layers, like lemon curd or chocolate pudding.  No matter what you choose, a traditional wedding cake will be a hit at your wedding reception.

Sheet Cake

Sheet cake can be made in whatever flavor you desire.  They’re especially great for large wedding parties!  Cutting and serving a sheet cake is fairly simple when compared to a traditional, tiered cake.  You could consider having a small, traditional cake for the cake cutting ceremony and pictures, but serving your guests from sheet cake.

Combinations

Are you struggling with disagreements on cake flavors?  Don’t worry, there’s no reason you can’t each have your favorite flavors!  When choosing a traditional cake, consider making the tiers different flavors.  Maybe your two favorite flavors would even go well together as a marble cake!  If you choose to serve sheet cake, the same rule applies.  Order multiple sheet cakes, each in the desired flavor.

Cake Alternatives

If you’re not a fan of cake, don’t worry!  There’s plenty of ways you can incorporate a delicious treat at your wedding.  For easy serving, brownies or donuts are great options.  They come in a variety of flavors and can make for an especially cute set-up.  Another great option is waffles.  Some caterers can even make a “cake” out of the waffles, complete with florals and everything!

Whatever you choose for your wedding, we hope it’s everything you wish for!  Happy wedding planning!
