Utah DIY Wedding Decor

We worked with Kathy for an event. Kathy has one of the only businesses locally with this model and price as well as with this much inventory, but I would be aware of what you are getting yourself into. Kathy was easily the hardest, most dreaded part of our event. She was disrespectful, abrasive, and just unnecessarily rude. I absolutely dreaded my interactions with her as I felt like I was being reprimanded each time. I had a lot of questions and was confused by her packages, and I felt punished for having questions. She knows she has a good deal, but she is an absolute nightmare to work with. I truly lost sleep over working with her, but was stuck. Along with her extremely disrespectful communication, Kathy's warehouse is the most overwhelming place I have ever been. She was so unhelpful and any time I would ask where something was, she would rudely tell me to go find it. She needs a printed catalog with photos of things people can rent. Her website is not updated and looks cheap. If you can get past these things, she does have some good inventory. Some of it is so cheap and just crap, but she does have some good pieces. I would not recommend her and I will continue to review where I can as her treatment of us was unbelievable.

Don't listen to these haters, I can promise you their experience and review of Kathy is simply because those individuals were completely disconnected and didn't engage with Kathy like they should have. Kathy has demonstrated time and time again that she'll bend over backwards, go above and beyond to make sure you have your dreams come true of your wedding day. BUT... Kathy is not going to hold your hand and read your mind the whole way through. That's not her job and that's not what you are paying her to do. And if you think I'm full of crap, listen here... I was actually going to buy Kathy's business last year but it turned out that the planets weren't aligned and my offer fell through. I was upset about it and honestly I was somewhat upset with Kathy about it but honestly it wasn't her fault. Oddly enough my step daughter became engaged almost immediately after the deal fell through and reluctantly we decided to go with Kathy for all our decor needs. Why??? Because Kathy knows what she is doing and she knows what you need and she does it flawlessly day in and day out without breaking a sweat. We could not be more pleased and overly impressed with how well my step daughters wedding day went and everything that Kathy provided us was top shelf. Nothing was cheap or bunk, all items were carefully hand selected and she even tossed in a few little things here and there just as a courtesy to tie everything together. She accommodated us with deposit, pickup, a return trip because I forgot something and drop off/return was a breeze. The entire process from start to finish was a piece of cake and that's not to be taken lightly during those final days before your big day. So again, don't listen to the haters, go to Kathy and don't stress. She's got your back and she's got your decor! You're going to have a BEAUTIFUL wedding, I promise!

I want to make every one aware of Utah DIY wedding. Kathy (the owner) was helping us with the decor for the wedding I was planning. We met several times to ensure that we were all on the same page for what we needed, and how things needed to be set up. She told us that she had a team of 2-4 people to help set up on the day of and ensure a smooth transition from our ceremony to reception. Kathy and I had been talking the day of the wedding and making sure nothing had changed.

We arranged when we would meet and that we could get everything done quickly. When I arrived she was alone but assured me that her team was coming but they we’re running late. Which I totally get since I run late often🤪 but Kathy and I were physically unable to bring in most of the decor we needed, so I was a little worried but we had 4-5 hours till the wedding started so I wasn’t TOO worried. I also noticed that she was missing a few of the items that we had paid her for, but I assumed her team would bring them. So to pass the time we started setting up the decor for food/drinks and the tables. I was trying to help her with the table cloths when she told me “Don’t touch my stuff. I’m not touching yours don’t touch mine.” I was caught off guard by how blunt she was but again I got it cause it is her property, and I wouldn’t want anything to get lost with how expensive table cloths/decor can be. Then later on in the day she said to me that she “hates working with other wedding planners”. Which you know, is my career… so I was pretty hurt by her words.

So per usual on a wedding day time flies! So I look at the clock and see that it’s 2:00 PM so we had an hour and a half till the ceremony began. So we really had an hour before guests started to arrive. I started to get nervous since I know that ceremony decor can take a bit of time because her team still wasn’t there, but she told me they were 15 minutes away. So we’d be cutting it close! Her team of 1 (NOT 2-4), arrived at 2:30 so we had 30 minutes and I was told to let her team do it cause they know what to do (which I 100% agree with cause I don’t know what the heck to do with it!).

the parents of the bride arrived and came and found me and were very confused why things weren’t really set up when the
ceremony was supposed to start in 15 minutes. I went and checked on things and I asked Kathy how long till things were ready since guests were already seated, she said 15 minutes which is 5 minutes after the scheduled time to start. I made her aware and asked what I could do to help move things along and was told nothing.

After the ceremony was over we talked to her about the missing items and told her we wanted to get reimbursed for those items and she just left without saying anything else. Her team member came and apologized and said he would bring the items (even though half of them were for the ceremony and we couldn’t use them anymore). When the items got to us he dropped them in a pile and then left.

I went to talk to the bride and check in on how she was doing and if she needed anything, she broke down in tears and said this was not what we discussed and wasn’t what we wanted and felt like her dream wasn’t achieved.

I just want to warn anyone to be cautious when picking your vendors and make sure that you check references and ensure everyone is on the same page!

I Just want to make you aware of Kathy Kushman who opperates this bussiness. I booked with her last year and when we had to cancel our reception due to covid she not only kept our deposit but the entire 421$ we had paid her. She was very rude about it. I posted something on several of the yardsale pages back then to make people aware of my situation working with her and recieved hundreds of comments about her from other people who had worked with her. I was blown away by all the people who she had done bad bussiness with. Some mentioned that she has changed her name several times because she has been in trouble with the better business bureau. Not being able to have the wedding I dreamed of was heartbreaking and to have someone steal from me on top of it was devastating. I just don't want to see her get away with taking advantage of anyone else and wanted to make you aware.
