Maureen Steel made her first wedding cake for her own wedding celebration in 1996. “I’ll be honest, I didn’t want to settle for a grocery store cake. They were just not special enough for our big day, she explains”. This disappointment brought curiosity and a new interest for mastering techniques in the world of cake design.
In November of 2001, Maureen began instructing cake decorating classes at the Layton, Utah Michaels craft store. “I enjoy meeting and teaching those who share the same budding passion. It’s satisfying to see their creativity come to life in an edible art form, Maureen states.”
Most recently, My Sweet Wedding Cakes is creating one of a kind confections for unique couples. “Your wedding cake should reflect your personality, theme, dress, colors, flowers or reception site. It takes an appreciation and patience to create an edible masterpiece. My goal is to provide clients with a delicious wide variety of modern tastes and designs.”

We loved working with Maureen! Our tasting appointment alone was so fun! It was in her lovely home (which she has a commercial kitchen near). She asked for our desired flavors, and when we got to our appointment, she had mini cakes in each of those flavors for us to taste and (best of all) take home. Delicious! She was really easy to work with and has serious talent. She does lovely work, is very sweet, and very professional. I would highly recommend her!
Maureen sure makes a delicious cake. She took the time to make sure she was giving us what we wanted. Delicious and worth the cost. It looked great.
Our cake turned out amazing! Maureen did a design that hasn't been done often, but the cake turned out beautifully! There were so many comments from all of the guests!
