Primer

If you want your makeup to last all day, make sure to start off with a primer! This will smooth out pores and wrinkles, can mattify your face (good for oily skin) or make it look dewier (for dull or dry skin).  And most importantly, it gives your foundation something to hold onto ensuring that your foundation won’t slide around.

For oily skin: Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector, ($14.98) Givenchy Mister Mat, ($67), and Benefit’s The Porefessional, ($22.16)  all do a great job at mattifying skin.

For dry skin: Marc Jacobs Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer ($44), Glossier Priming Moisturizer ($22), and E.l.f. Hydrating Face Primer ($6) are great hydrating primers.

For combination skin: DHC Velvet Skin Coat ($21), Cover FX Dewy Skin Primer ($38), and Facestudio Master Prime Primer Makeup Hydrate and Smooth ($9.99) are amazing.

If you don’t know what skin type you are, no worries! Just pick up Clinique’s Super Universal Face Primer ($27). This primer is made to work with dry, oily, and combination skin.

Finishing

After doing the rest of your skin (foundation, contour, blush) it is important to use a setting and/or finishing powder to make your makeup last. Setting powder will lock in your look for good and reduces shine on your face while finishing powder will give you a perfect airbrushed look. Finishing powder is great for days when you are planning on having a lot of photos taken of you (aka your wedding day). In my opinion, these two powders are interchangeable but you can use both of these at once if you want to make sure your makeup won’t budge. If you use primer, setting powder, and finishing powder, you won’t have to worry about your makeup all day.

My personal favorite powder is the original bareMinerals Mineral Veil Finishing Powder ($24). This powder is available in several different finishes (Original, Illuminating, and Hydrating) so it is perfect for every skin type. It is like a setting and finishing powder all in one. It takes down the shine, blurs skin, and makes my makeup last FOREVER. Since I’ve been using it, I can go over 12 hours without needing to retouch my makeup! Although this is my favorite, there are other great finishing powders out there that can make you look amazing all day!

For dry skin: Smashbox Halo Hydrating Powder ($49) and L’Oreal Paris Hydra Perfecte Perfecting Loose Powder ($9) are great setting powders and bareMinerals Hydrating Mineral Veil Finishing Powder ($24) is the perfect finishing powder.

For oily skin: Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder ($46) ands Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder ($42) and Danessa Myricks Beauty Evolution Powder ($24) are great setting powders and Neutrogena Healthy Skin Pressed Powder ($12.99) and the Original bareMinerals Finishing Veil Powder ($24) are both wonderful finishing powders.

For combination skin: Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder ($49) and Sacha Buttercup Setting Powder ($22) are both great, lasting setting powders. For combination skin, you can either lean toward finishing powders that add hydration and glow or ones that mattify depending on your preference. See the above suggestions for dry and oily skin finishing powders.

If all of this is too much, you could always have your makeup done by a wedding professional.
